A Sense Of Place

From the troglodytes in rural Iran to the luxurious buildings of Tehran, from a beach constantly threatened by war to a wandering transit in an airport, in the collective documentary «Iran – A Sense of Place», initiated by the Wim Wenders Foundation, Iranian filmmakers tell stories of places located in Iran or in exile in France and Germany. In this festival’s screening we present four parts of this six-part anthology.

Collective Directors’ Note
We, the Directors of the collective documentary «Iran – A Sense of Place», were born and raised in Iran at more or less the same time. Our origins and the era in which we evolved connect us. The turbulent historical, political, social, and economic events that have marked Iran over the past decades have also shaped us. The country and its places have influenced our way of thinking and our identity. Nevertheless, each of us will see the place we have chosen from a different perspective. We want to convey the meaning of these places – this «sense of place» as developed by Wim Wenders – through our individual perceptions, memories, observations, fears, desires, and pains each of which is linked to lived experiences. Beyond its artistic expression, this collective film also has a militant character. It’s to invite to a polyphonic reflection and contemplation.
