Mohammadreza Farzad

Mohammadreza Farzad (1978) was born in Iran, Teheran. He started his career as a poet and literary translator. His career as documentary filmmaker started with “Into Thin Air” (2011) and “Blames and Flames” (2012) that premiered at Berlinale Forum Expanded and shown in various festivals. His documentary films “Forget-Me-Not Egg” (2013) and “Wedding: A Film” (2015) respectively premiered at Thessaloniki and Next Masters section of Dok Leipzig and screened in dozens of other festivals. His acclaimed recent film “Subtotals” (2022) premiered at Berlinale and was awarded in many prestigious film festivals (IDFA, Clermont-Ferrand, Dokufest, Melbourne, Oberhausen, New Horizon, Popoli, Kasseler Doc, Fipadoc, etc). He also acted as jury member in many international film festivals. Farzad has been a PhD student at the Film Factory headed by legendary Hungarian auteur Béla Tarr. He is currently working on his first feature film “Gaze Long into the Abyss”.
