Drawing Across The Lines Of Colour

The documentary Drawing Across Lines of Color talks about how South African artists of different races and mediums tackle the topic of race through satirical art. The film consists mostly of conversations that explore the artists thoughts on the racial divides and inequities in their country, as well as how they translate these into the work that they do, whether it be poetry, illustration, comedy or painting. All artists explore the extremities of racism to demonstrate its problematical consequences, critique its historical origins, and shed lights on its embeddedness in today’s world and our very language.

Joost van de Ven

Joost van de Ven is a confident, creative spirit who combines courage and sovereignty in the right dose. As a child he wanted to be a filmmaker and asked friends to act in his films. At the atheneum his interest shifted to politics and society, and so decided to study cultural anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. During his student years he merged film and society up to obtaining a master’s degree in visual sciences. Now, as a filmmaker and anthropologist, he thinks outside the box and uses his intuition as a compass. With Amsterdam as his home base, Joost travels the world in search of interesting stories. “I want to think across borders, fight straightforward discourse and bring people together”.
