Ethnofest, within the Erasmus+ UFemTP project framework: A Mobilizing Training and a Multimedia Platform, invites applications for the Autumn Workshop Engaging in Visual Ethnographic Practices. Set in the everyday life of Athens, the course invites participants to work with the city on a smaller, more intimate scale, through portraits of people, places, and the small stories that unfold within it.
Participants will engage in hands-on modules that translate historical concepts, documentary movements, and stylistic approaches into technical skills, covering the basics of film language, camera positioning, and the ethics of directing.
Through locally grounded research, participants are encouraged to situate their work within broader international debates in visual anthropology and multimodal ethnography.
This nine-part course offers a dynamic bridge between the critical history of ethnographic cinema and the practical craft of the filmmaker-researcher. Participants will produce a 5-10-minute documentary-style portrait of either a person or a place.
