Giovanni Astorino

Giovanni Astorino (born in Alghero, 1989) is an independent photographer, filmmaker, cinematographer, and visual anthropologist. He has conducted research in Senegal, Finland, and Indonesia, publishing two photographic books and several international reportages, including Surfing Towards Equality, awarded Best Photographic Reportage of the Year in Finland (Editkilpailu, 2020). Since 2021, he has been based in Turin, collaborating with Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio (Canone Effimero, Berlinale 2025). He was director of photography for Litania by Francesco Pellegrino and Dubbio nel Buio by Andrea D’Eredità, and co-directed with Pellegrino Un posto di vacanza (Movie Tellers 2025). He is currently pursuing a PhD in Visual Anthropology at the University of Turin.
