Amir Youssef

Egyptian artist and filmmaker based between Paris and Alexandria. His films explore the lingering presence of colonial histories and the ways they shape memory, identity, and representation. Drawing on archival materials and mythic narratives, he reinterprets historical events through poetic and experimental storytelling. Trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria and Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, Amir examines how images construct power and how cinema can reclaim silenced voices. His film Apoleon premiered at Visions du Réel, with recent screenings and exhibitions at Ars Electronica, Fondation Vasarely, and Le Fresnoy.
