Intangible Cultural Heritage and Ethnographic Cinema

Accessible screenings at the National Film Archive and Online

Accessible Educational Films

As part of Ethnofest’s continuous support and interest in intangible cultural heritage we present 5 educational films at the Greek Film Archive on Friday, 2nd of December 2022. The films are also going to be available online at the Ethnofest website after the screening. The project is under the auspices and with the financial support of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, supporting actions for the promotion and preservation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Cinema may be a quintessentially audiovisual experience, however its magic could be translated into alternative codes of communication and transmitted to an audience that would normally have limited access to it.

Aiming for equal participation of visually and hearing impaired people in the cinematic experience, we selected five educational films to make accessible and available. The selected films capture essential elements of the Greek intangible cultural heritage. In collaboration with liminal we added audio description for visually impaired people and open captions subtitling for deaf and hard of hearing people.

In addition, after the screening in the Greek Film Archive, we are pleased to host these films on our website in order for them to be available for an audience across Greece that is usually excluded from such experiences and will now be able to enjoy them whenever they wish.

We hope that this initiative is the starting point of similar future actions that will strengthen and support the accessibility in Greek cinema.
