Triplex Confinium

The absurdity of borders, as seen through the eyes of an old man who lives in Beba Veche, where Romania neighbours both Hungary and Serbia. Once a year, when the triple border opens, people are reminded how alienating the regulations imposed by the EU can be.

Maria Bălănean

Maria Bălănean graduated in 2014 from Film Editing and Sound Design at National University of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography “I.L. Caragiale” Bucharest. She edited documentaries that were screened at festivals such as Vision du Reel, Entrevues Belfort and Astra Film Festival. Discovering new cultures throughout her travels made her want to understand humans better, so in 2018 she joined a master program in visual anthropology, during which she directed her first documentary, Triplex Confinium.
