Nou Voix is an autobiographical video departing from the participation of Maxime’s father, as a Guyanese figurant in the movie Jean Galmot aventurier (1990), which deals with the history of French Guiana. By re-enacting a part of the film, Maxime and his father try to amplify other kinds of voices that have been unheard in the original French film.
Maxime Jean-Baptiste (1993) is a filmmaker based in Brussels and Paris. Born and raised in the context of the Guyano-Antillese diaspora in France, of a French mother and Guyanese father, his interest is to dig inside the complexity of western colonial history by detecting the survival of traumas from the past in the present. He has been graduated in Visual Arts (BA) at erg/école de recherche graphique (Brussels, BE) and in Media Arts (MA) at K.A.S.K. School of arts (Ghent, BE), and is now participant of SIC / SoundImageCulture program. He works with several artists and theorists as collaborator or video editor.
