Mother Mare

Mare is the lighthouse keeper of Kihnu, a small Estonian island off the Baltic Sea that has been described as Europe’s last matriarchy. While the men are away at sea during long periods of time, it is the women who care for and govern the land. What will be the future of a place that has always been waiting for someone to return?

Elisa Chiari

Elisa Chiari is a freelance director and photographer. After graduating in Cinema and New Technologies at Iulm University in Milan, she started working for several documentary projects, collaborating regularly with realities such as UNICEF. In 2021 she won the Video Essay Film Festival at MAXXI in Rome and also shot the videowall “The two moons” for the Italian pavilion during EXPO DUBAI. The following year she was selected for the Itineranze DOC residency. In 2023 she won the IDS Solinas Documentary for Cinema award. Her first feature film, Lunàdiga, is currently in development and was presented at the last Torino Film Industry.
