The short documentary Guto and Graça is part of a series of six films on Vidigal, a favela in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The filmmaker and the main protagonists walk around the favela identifying signs of a tentative process of gentrification that followed Rio’s urban renewal project in anticipation of the mega-events (2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics). As they go up the favela, they encounter people with different and contradictory views of gentrification, touching on the complexities of favela life.
