Already in the first week of November, the month that is traditionally linked with Ethnofest’s Festival, we feel that the need to address our friends is more urgent than ever. Reaching the end of the tortured 2020, we think it is a perfect chance to communicate Ethnofest news, changes and next steps.

Changes in the world around us have also changed the world within us, the human condition and the way we perceive communication, intimacy, technology. But the need for human contact, knowledge dissemination, and the importance of community remains the same – even more urgent perhaps. In this context, Ethnofest is reshaping and redistributing its activities, while maintaining its initial goals.

Since many of our collaborations are outside Greece, and also in the effort to adapt to the new type of communication, we have enriched our equipment with all necessary tools for a complete virtual transfer of the activities that used to take place in person. We are well aware of the importance of physical presence and experience as a means of exchanging ideas, knowledge and change. And if the current conditions do not allow it, at least we seek the immediacy online platforms offer us.

So Ethnofest and its team are getting ready for their next steps. The 11th edition of the festival is just around the corner, the summer school is taking on a new form and will return in July 2021 renewed and dynamic while new interesting productions of ethnographic documentaries are in preparation.

Ethnofest aims to continue being an active promotion platform and a meeting place for the advance of visual anthropology and multimedia ethnography, through productions, research programmes, educational activities and seminars. Τhrough the enrichment of its archive and the Festival. as a place of convergence and festive transformation of almost all forms of its activities.

We want our presence to be stable and substantial within and outside the borders of our country, in order to dynamically and creatively bring together all those who are interested in ethnographic cinema within and outside the academic context.
