Barcelona has become one of Europe’s tourism epicentres. In 2018, the city hosted over thirty million tourists, which placed it near the top of the list of the continent’s most visited cities along with London, Paris, Rome and Berlin.
Laura Alvarez has spent the past twelve years in a variety of roles in the audiovisual sphere, although her focus has always been on the creation of content for television. Her evolution as a journalist and an audiovisual content creator has always gone hand in hand with a growing interest in telling people’s stories, leading her in her professional life to specialise in social issues. She is also increasingly concerned about the impact of gentrification and mass tourism on local life worldwide. In 2016, this drove her to take a new step in her career and start ‘City for sale’ (Bausan Films, 2018), her first feature-length documentary film. The film premiered in Festival de Málaga (2019) and DocsBarcelona (2019).
