The Athens Ethnographic Film Festival – Ethnofest is happy to announce the upcoming screenings of “Alima” in Greece and abroad! Alima, an Ethnofest production in collaboration with the Mediterranean Institute for Nature and Antropos (MedINA), directed by Loukas Koubouris and Nickolas Papadimitriou, premiered in November 2017 at the 8th Athens Ethnographic Film Festival – Ethnofest, within the context of the themed section “Man and the Environment”. The film was created in the framework of the Mediterranean Consortium for Nature and Culture, with the support of the Management Body of Mesolonghi-Aitoliko Lagoon, and Olympus and it was funded by MAVA Fondation pour la Nature. It is based on an ethnographic observation of the daily routine of the fishermen at the Mesolonghi-Aitoliko Lagoon, capturing the daily routine of the fishermen working and living in the ivari of Komma –located around a small islet in the lagoon– as it takes place in the fishing period from spring to winter 2017.

After its premier at the 8th Ethnofest, Alima screened at the 20th Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival and, subsequently, travelled to Greek islands for regional screenings. The film also travelled to Patmos for a special installation screening at the Aegean Film Festival, as well as to Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where it screened in the framework of the 38th NAFA International Ethnographic Film Festival.

Upcoming screenings:

  • On Thursday, September 20th, Alima will screen at the 24th edition of the Athens International Film Festival within the context of the special section “Greek Short Stories”. The screening will take place at 17:30 at Cine Ideal, and the directors will be present to answer questions and discuss with the audience.
  • On Thursday, September 27th, Alima will travel to Finland and screen at the Vaasa Wildlife Film Festival within the context of the themed section “Environment and Conservation”.
