After three successful editions, the Summer School “Visual Ethnography of Cityscapes” is one of Ethnofest’s most beloved educational activities. The Summer School consists of an intensive series of workshops and courses on ethnographic cinema and it’s co-organized by the the Athens Ethnographic Film Festival – Ethnofest and the Netherlands Institute in Athens (NIA), in collaboration with the Free University of Amsterdam (VU). Teaching staff will be joining the school from the University of Amsterdam (UvA), University of Leiden, Panteion University, University of Aegean and the Heritage Management Organization.
This year, Summer School returns for the fourth consecutive year and it’s referring to graduate, post-graduate and PhD students who are keen on having a hands-on experience with the tools of visual anthropology and on exploring the city through the cinematic lens. During a series of intensive courses and workshops, participants will practice on the methodologies of ethnography and will create their own ethnographic films, a selection of which will be screened at the 9th Ethnofest in November 2018.
The 4th edition of the Summer School will take place from July 1st to July 20th 2018 and will accept applications from graduate students on their final semester, post-graduate and first year PhD students in Social / Political Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts. You can read more about the description of the courses and the selection criteria here!
Students can apply by sending the application form (you can find it here) and a motivation letter on “Visual Ethnography of Cityscapes” at firstname.lastname@example.org until May 15th. Successful applicants will be notified by May 21st. Since the number of participants is limited, make sure to apply on time!
Good luck and see you at the 4th Summer School!
