The Athens Ethnographic Film Festival – Ethnofest is curating a series of screenings within the framework of the Winter School “Migration in the Margins of Europe”. The Winter School is co-organized by the University of Amsterdam, its Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies, the department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of VU University Amsterdam and the Netherlands Institute in Athens, and it is oriented to postgraduate and PhD students in Social Sciences.

Ethnofest’s contribution to the Winter School “Migration in the Margins of Europe” consists of screenings of ethnographic films on refugees, migration, borders and marginalization. Films like Kazuyo Minamide’s “A Life Suspended” (2013), Mauro Bucci’s “Hotel Splendid” (2016), and Anna Wilma Xilakis’ “Going Illegal, A Border Diary” (2016) will be screened within this context and they will be useful tools for further discussion and analysis through the lens of visual anthropology.

The Winter School “Migration in the Margins of Europe” will take place for the seventh consecutive year, from 18-28 January at the Netherlands Institute in Athens. For more information, follow this link.
